We all know that each of us is different. Most of us acknowledge this and claim to be open and tolerant of diversity. Yet, in practice, things often look quite different.

One key aspect of communication is understanding the filters through which we perceive reality and how they shape our views and interactions. Communication styles are one of these filters, stemming from our personality, experiences, and preferences regarding relationships, tasks, and decision-making. Additionally, our beliefs about the world, others, and ourselves shape our perceptions, often leading to biases—prejudices and preferences that affect how we interpret people and situations. Recognizing these mental shortcuts can help us avoid the pitfalls of misjudgement and misunderstanding.

By becoming more aware of our own communication patterns and biases, we can also better understand others. Just as we have our preferred communication styles and belief systems, so do those around us. Acknowledging these differences enables us to navigate communication barriers more effectively, regulate emotions, and uncover genuine intentions—both our own and those of others.

During the workshop, you will:

✔ Learn about different types of empathy and their role in effective collaboration

✔ Identify some of the cognitive filters that influence your interactions with others
