Gönpa Hall Acoustic Treatment

Gönpa Hall Acoustic Treatment Project by Namkhai Yeshi
In summer 2024 we began an important project with Namkhai Yeshi to improve the sound quality in our Gönpa Hall.
Following a detailed acoustic assessment, Namkhai Yeshi prepared a comprehensive Acoustic Treatment Study, identifying current challenges and offering practical solutions.
We are now moving forward with the recommendations from His study, which include installing sound-absorbing elements in different areas of the Gönpa and acquiring recommended sound equipment.
Our goal is to complete the project before Namkhai Yeshi’s upcoming retreat in February 2026 (more information coming soon).
The project’s estimated budget is €43,000.
We warmly invite you to support this important project by making a donation.

Design The Wave
Call for artistic proposal for Dzamling Gar Gönpa Hall
During a meeting with Namkhai Yeshi, he suggested to us to design a wave with the acoustic treatment material.
We would like to give the possibility to everyone who wants to send in a design for this material in the back wall of the Gönpa Hall.

Guidelines for Submitting Acoustic Treatment Proposals
Introduction
Here you can find the requirements and guidelines for submitting proposals for the acoustic treatment of the Gönpa Hall.
The objective is to design an acoustic wave using sound adsorption material for the back wall of the Gönpa Hall. We invite all interested parties to submit their creative designs.
Project Overview
The Gönpa Hall requires acoustic treatment for its back wall. The design should incorporate a wave-like aesthetic and utilize specific sound adsorption materials. The total area to be covered is approximately 80 square meters, encompassing the entire back wall.
Design Requirements
Proposals must adhere to the following specifications:
- Coverage Area: The design must cover the entire back wall, approximately 80 square meters.
- Aesthetic Theme: The design should represent a “wave of the sea.”
- Material Specifications: The design must utilize square sound adsorption material panels, each measuring 30×30 cm.
- Color Scheme: All elements of the design must be white.
- Accentuation: A line can be drawn on top of the materials to accentuate the wave design. However, this line must constitute a small percentage (5-10%) of the total wall area.
Hall Dimensions
To assist with design planning, please refer to the following dimensions of the Gönpa Hall’s back wall sections:

There are 3 areas of the wall where the absorbing material has to be placed:
Section 1: 9 x 3.6 meters
Section 2 (Podium/Scene Area): 17.3 x 3.6 meters, with a podium height of 0.5 meters.
Section 3 (Door Area): 6.8 x 3.6 meters up to the door, and 2.6 x 3.6 meters after the door.

6,8 x 3,6 m

Sound Adsorption Material Details
The sound adsorption material panels are 30×30 cm squares. They have a thickness of 10 cm on one side and 2 cm on the other side.
