Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche repeatedly emphasized the importance of performing the practices correctly, including singing with the proper melodies and rhythm.
Knowledge of the melodies, timings, use of ritual instruments, and perfect pronunciation are a must for whoever leads practice and beneficial for everyone.

Sometimes I really have doubts, because it is very easy to lead the Thun and a Ganapuja in a correct way. If someone doesn’t understand and still doesn’t do it in a perfect way after listening to my explanations numerous times, maybe they did not understand the Dzogchen Semde, Longde and Upadesha either that I’ve been teaching for thirty years. That would really be a pity, no?

This fall, we continue with our series of Umdze trainings, with the practice of Chöd. About the Chöd melodies, Namkhai Norbu said:

Many Chöd masters heard the melodies of the chants in visions or dreams. These melodies are also connected to transmission and have the power to develop our capacity. That is why the same melodies have been used for many centuries. The melodies we use in our Chöd have been used by hundreds of good masters. When a realized master uses a melody, it becomes sacred. We use these melodies realizing that they are connected to transmission.

It is therfore really important to learn those melodies in a correct way, as it support our practice.

As he also stressed many time, it is important to know how to follow a practice

I want to say, when we are singing something, someone is leading.
In this case, I am leading, but people are not listening, how I am singing. Because, when you are singing, always you listen, who are leading, how is singing. When I finished words, still I feel something like echo, you are not finished still. Always, not only now, always, yesterday, many times. So, that is why, because you are not listening, who is leading that practice. Also not listening that, that means, you are also distracted. If you are being present, then you listen.

This course welcomes everyone having received Teachings from either Chögyal Namkhai Norbu or Namkhai Yeshi, interested and committed to learning practices in a precise way, even if they do not lead practices.
