The course will be held by Steven Landsberg and Alessandro Di Maio.
IMPORTANT UPDATE:
- The course will now be offered fully online.
The soundscapes have been designed to be listened to in a quadraphonic setting in the Gönpa of Dzamling Gar. We will offer a stereo version online (and try to offer a binaural one, allowing you to feel the movement in a similar way to the quadraphonic — subject to conclusive tests).
In order to get the best experience possible, you will need to use headphones.
This course will be devoted to practise of selected semzin. Experiential application will be elaborated within the context of the dzogchen view. Furthermore, the selected semzin and rushan will be descriptively depicted with soundscapes which indicate the spatial and temporal environmental context.
Immersive Electroacoustic Soundscape Sessions on the Semdzin Practices
In this retreat we will explore an innovative approach that combines Dzogchen Semdzin practices with immersive electroacoustic soundscapes. Following the inspiration and wisdom of Namkhai Yeshi’s teachings, these sessions are designed to support direct experience rather than conceptual understanding.
For each Semdzin, a unique soundscape will be createdand diffused in a quadriphonic sound system within the Gönpa of Dzamling Gar. These carefully designed sonic environments are not “music” to listen to in a conventional way, but experiential fields that:
- Amplify presence and awareness of the senses
- Support letting go of ordinary mental engagement with sounds
- Help reveal the natural state through the direct experience of listening
By working with space, vibration, resonance and silence, each soundscape will mirror the specific quality of the Semdzin being practiced, offering a subtle but powerful support to the contemplative process. Participants will be guided in how to relate to these immersive sound experiences within the view of Dzogchen, using sound not as entertainment or distraction, but as a gateway to recognise and stabilise the nature of mind.
This method will be presented and applied here for the first time, opening a new way of integrating electroacoustic music with the living tradition of Dzogchen.
Requirements: Having attended teachings with Chögyal Namkhai Norbu or Namkhai Yeshi is required.
