‘Murals of Tibet’ and the Dzogchen depictions of Lhasa’s Lukhang Temple
This visual presentation showcases the tradition of wall painting in Tibetan temples and monasteries. This form of Buddhist art is mostly unknown in the Western world. Its function is to communicate the essence of the spiritual teaching through symbols. The beauty and inspirational power of these artworks open the minds and hearts of viewers. The images are from the book “Murals of Tibet” (Taschen, 2018), photographed by Thomas Laird. Jakob Winkler is one of three Tibetologists who contributed as co-authors. He dedicated his work to the paintings illustrating the teachings of the Great Perfection (Dzogchen) of the Lukhang Temple in Lhasa.
