ABOUT WILVIN PEDERSEN

I was born in 1948 and grew up in Norway. My interest in the arts began when I was in my early teens. I was free spirited, and being pretty stubborn, I followed my own way, without considering a so-called “normal life” as an option.

In 1966 I started to learn painting from two Norwegian artists: Odd Nerdrum and Jan Sæther. I continued my art education at the City and Guilds of London Art School, and from 1968 in the College of Art in Oslo, Kunst og Håndverksskolen. In Oslo, I worked in the theatres as a scenographer and painter. Later, I was also involved in the painting of the Gönpa of Merigar West for a couple of years.

As a young woman, I became very interested in Tibetan culture, which brought a deeper dimension to my life, and that has been with me ever since.
I like painting Thangka-inspired Deities and Masters with watercolour on different materials, always with my own touch.

I see art as a medium through which to communicate emotions, but also as a means to go beyond and to express the natural appearance of nature, in presence, while painting.
Nature has always been a major inspiration in my paintings and I express this with the picture I receive in my mind as I go along.

I work with various kinds of paints, from oils, tempera, acrylic to watercolour.
