Discover the Power of Meditation in Movement

What is Vajra Dance?

The Dance of the Vajra is a meditation in movement.
The simple, slow and fluid movements of Dance relax the body, clear the mind, and relieve the tensions of our daily life.

Through dancing we activate and coordinate specific energy points in our body according to an ancient knowledge of channels and chakras. In this way the Vajra Dance dissolves energy blocks, harmonizes the three main aspects of our being – body, energy and mind – and develops presence and awareness.

Its Origins

In the ancient texts of Dzogchen we find described various Vajra dances that seem to have been used in those times, although more recently only a scant number of Vajra dances have remained a living tradition in a few monasteries. A Vajra dance is generally considered to be a sacred dance and is presented as such. Effectively practiced in that way, a Vajra dance is in a real sense always connected with the Dance of the Vajra that we do. This Dance of the Vajra is related to the practice of the state of contemplation or what we call the state of Dzogchen.

The Dance of the Vajra is a result of the profound meditation of the Dzogchen master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu.
The master received the terma “The Vajra Dance Liberating the Six Classes of Beings into the Six Pure Dimensions” from 1989 on.

Its Unique Features

By moving with the body, by singing the mantras with the voice, and by being in a state of contemplation with the mind, the three main aspects of our existence are balanced, and we can find a state of serenity and deep relaxation.

The Mandala

The Mandala of the Vajra Dance represents our dimension and between the two exists a precise correspondence. To step and dance on the Mandala symbolizes the principle of integrating subject and object, ourselves with our dimension.

Who It’s For

All four Vajra Dances are inseparably linked to the transmission of the Dzogchen Teaching. In order to receive all the benefits of the dances, one should have received this transmission from a Dzogchen master.
Everyone, however, can practice the “Dance of the Vajra that Benefits Beings”.

If someone has difficulties with a movement or position, then perhaps they cannot do everything in a very precise way. But, if someone is aiming to go in that direction and to perform the movements, then benefit always exists.

Vajra Dance is very important for harmonizing our energy.

What is the Vajra Dance that Benefits Beings?

The “Dance of the Vajra that Benefits Beings” is a symbolic dance of compassion.

It is a symbolic dance of the interrelationship of all sentient beings. Up to twelve dancers dance and sing together on a large Mandala of five colors representing the correspondence between the internal dimension of the individual and the outer dimension of the world. The intoned syllables are closely related to the purification and harmonization of our main chakras.
It is more related to our physical level.

Benefits of Dance

There will be benefit connected to the mind. For example, if we are agitated, we will enter a calmer state. There can also be physical benefits, due to the automatic harmonisation of our energy. If our energy is harmonised, we will not experience certain illnesses or certain kinds of degeneration of the physical body.

It frees the tensions related to our conditioning by different emotions.

The simple, slow and fluid movements of Dance relax the body,

clear the mind, and relieve the tensions of our daily life.
